about

Have you ever wondered what makes a man play the washboard? I know I have. And if you are similarly inclined toponder such things, you will want to check out The Outlaw J.D. Ray by 17 Pygmies.
Outlaw continues the latest Pygmy trends of reviving the concept album and not playing too fast. This time around, Blind Lemony Pledge Fresh Jackson and his posse (western, not rap) use post-civil war folk music and pre-WWII blues as the backdrop to a story of ambition, deceit, and of course love lost and found (you know, basic tragedy stuff) and of course, redemption. With of course, a washboard. Since I know everyone is going to look for a genre, let's make one up. How about…Folk + Prog = Frog? Or Toad. Yeah, Toad is even better. Whatever. Ribbit. Moving on.
So let's see, paragraph No. 2 is supposed to be about selling points. Hmmm…OK Mr. Programmer, Let's see…well, I'm not dead yet and every so often someone returns one of my emails. How's that? No? How about you can't touch a copy of Jedda by the Sea for under $50 bucks? Still not sold? Well then, I got nothing.
My personal favorite track is "Atlas Shrugged Blues." It has nothing to do with Ayn Rand mind you, but I just like the idea of a song that sings about ferrying souls to the other side. You. know, the tragedy thing? See above if you are confused. I know I am. In fact I'm not really clear why I am writing this at all. It's not like I expect to sell anything.
Let's see, I know I'm supposed to slip in a quote somewhere…well, no one except the band has heard Outlaw, so I guess I'll just make up a quote, I know…"Best thing the band has done since the last thing they did, whatever that was." Perfect. Let's go with that. Oh wait tag lines…hmmm…how about "Mystical Hillbillies?" "Shaker, rattle and roll?" "Rhythm and Road-kill?" Apparently, my cup runneth under…
OK. I'm sure I could go on for several more pages, but The Shawshank Redemption is about to start on TBS so adios amigos
and good luck.

about

17 Pygmies La Quinta, California

Keeping in mind that we are talking about a band with a 39+ year history, 17 Pygmies are a band that has admittedly undertaken many personnel changes (the only original member is Jackson Del Rey) and diverged in any number of musical directions. The band now has a lineup that includes Jackson Del Rey (aka Philip Drucker), Jeff Brenneman, Dirk Doucette, Meg Maryatt and Greg Grunke. ... more
